The quest for relaying a message with the use of color, value, composition and technique to make a bold statement or a subtle message is exciting and challenging. A friend quipped to my husband Leonard as they studied a painting of mine. “How long did you know Berna before you realized she had such a strange sense of humor”? Whether joking or sincere the remark concerning my sense of humor was a reaction to that particular piece of artwork and its title. Those words became a treasured, memorable gift. It would truly be wonderful if one could reach out with each and every painting or drawing and get the coveted reaction. In my opinion that would be the true measure of success. That quest will continue with whatever techniques, materials and knowledge I can come up with to accomplish this task.
